What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapists help children and their families to engage effectively in their daily routines, optimizing their capabilities. These routines include play, attending school, and self-care tasks like eating, dressing, and using the toilet. To participate in these activities, children need fine and gross motor skills, sustained focus on tasks, social and play skills, as well as the capacity to manage sensory stimuli, behaviours, and emotions.

At The OT Collective, our team prioritise enjoyment in therapy sessions, guiding children toward increased independence and proficiency in their routines. We aim to boost their confidence and overall happiness as they navigate these essential aspects of life.
How can we help?
Our occupational therapists work with children who have difficulties with:

-
Fine Motor Skills: This includes tasks like cutting, drawing, and writing, enhancing their dexterity and precision.
-
Gross Motor Skills: We work on muscle control and coordination for physical activities such as hopping, jumping, climbing, throwing and catching a ball, and riding a bike.
-
Attention and Concentration: We assist children in improving their ability to maintain focus and concentration on task
-
Social and Play Skills: Our therapists help children play appropriately with toys, family members, and peers, promoting healthy social interactions.
-
Sensory Processing: We address sensory issues, helping children process sensory information like touch, smell, taste, movement, or visual stimuli, ensuring they can respond appropriately. This includes addressing both over-responsiveness and under-responsiveness to sensory input.
-
Self-Regulation: Whether it's emotional, sensory, or behavioral regulation, we aid children in managing their responses. This can include staying calm in a bustling classroom or during stressful events.
-
Self-Care Skills: We focus on developing independence in toileting, tying shoelaces, dressing, and feeding.
-
Handwriting: Our therapists work on handwriting skills, including orientation on lines, spacing between words, correct letter formations, and reducing handwriting fatigue.
-
Learning Activities: We help children enhance problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, memory, and planning skills to excel in their educational endeavors.
-
Visual Perceptual Skills: We address visual perception to aid in tasks such as reading, handwriting, and hand-eye coordination activities by enhancing their ability to process visual information effectively.
